Gordo First United Methodsit Church was organized as Gordo Methodist Church in 1900 with 44 charter members, most coming from Hargrove Methodist. A small frame building was erected in 1901 on property donated by Mr. & Mrs. W. H. Davis.
In 1920, the frame building was replaced by the present brick sanctuary. The new building also included a basement curatined off to provide Sunday School spaces. Ad educational annex was added to the rear of the sanctuary about 1957. Around this same time, the sanctuary was also remoded and the steeple was added. In 1966, work was begun on an addition to the educational annex. Dedicated 1994, the Family Life Center was built largely by volunteer labor of Church members.
Gordo First Church provided its early pastors with a parsonage in the heart of Gordo, a frame house on 2nd Avenue – within walking distance of the church. In 1945, a large brick parsonage was erected on Second Street (commonly called Preacher Street), with the lot having been donated by Mr. & Mrs. Joel Glass. This parsonage served until 1999 when a modern new parsonage was erected in the Ridgefield Subdivision north of Gordo.
